INSTALLATION
-DRY WALL-
Prerequisites
Before installing a Bcompact Staircase or Ladder onto a dry wall, you must ensure the area of the wall where the foot of the staircase will be attached to is re-enforced.
Please refer to our troubleshooting guide for more information on how to do this.
Step
1
Go to the area you will be installing the staircase and take a framing square with you. Use the framing square to check the squareness of the tow connecting faces of the area (wall side and front facade)
If you the area is out of square, please refer to the troubleshooting section below.

Fully Assembled Staircase
With the help of an additional person, take the fully assembled staircase and place it against the wall you will be installing it on.
If you are installing on a wall that has skirting or framing protruding from it, please see Troubleshooting Steps 1 & 2 before proceeding to the next step.
Step

Fully Assembled Staircase

Stopper Screw
With the staircase placed in situ, place your spirit level on the top step parallel to the main fixing wall. Ensure that it is level.
Once staircase is level in situ, install the stopper screw at the foot of the fixed side stinger as shown in the video. This will prevent the staircase from sliding during the next steps of the installation.

Step

Fully Assembled Staircase
With the staircase placed in situ, use a spirit level to ensure position is level in 3 axis XYZ (forwards, backwards, left and right, up and down)
Once complete, mark a continual line on the wall under the fixed side stringer with a pencil. If you are cutting into a skirting board, this would be a good time to continue that line over skirting board and also another one over the skirting board at the front of the same fixed side stringer.
Remember to see the troubleshooting section for information about installing with framing or skirting boards.
Step
5
Remove the staircase from situ and return to the install location with a string line and check the straightness of the wall along the diagonal line where the fixed side stringer will attach.
If the wall is uneven and / or if it is necessary to pack the wall away from framing at top, you will have to install spacers to ensure the staircase is installed correctly.
See troubleshooting guide 'What to do if you have an uneven wall'.
Step
6
Following the diagonal line on the wall, locate all the corresponding studs and mark them off. These will be the locations where you will be attaching the staircase to.
Step
7

Fasteners

Fully Assembled Staircase
With the assistance of an additional person, bring the staircase and place it against the wall, in situ, ready for installation.
In preparation for fastening the staircase into final position, we will drill holes into staircase starting from the top down. The first pilot will be at the far end of the cross support directly under the top step. Make sure you use a level at this time to position it correctly.
Drill and countersink this hole, and then attach your first fastener as shown in video.

Fasterners

Fully Assembled Staircase
Using the locations found by the stud finder, you can now drill through the lower section of the stringer creating a pilot hole for your fasteners to then attach to the studs behind the dry wall.

Handrail Tube

M8 Bolt (with washer)

Fully Assembled Staircase
Attach the handrail tube to the handrail mechanism using the M8 Bolts.
Step
10

Fully Assembled Staircase
The staircase should now be installed. Be sure to check the sturdiness of the install and smoothness of the opening and closing of the mechanism.
If you have any issues please refer to our troubleshooting section or get in touch with support.
Thank you again and welcome to the BCompact family.
